After staying at South Fork I have plenty of great hiking and camping stories. After we pitched our tent we decided to go on the first trial to the left of the entrance. It's a 5 mile hike, winding through the mountains, with a little river at the bottom. We followed to river for a few hundred yards then had to turn around. The next day we went to the other trails located in the parking lot. If you go left you just follow a small stream into the mountains. Very cool although challenging because you're forced to cross the river about 15 times. Be sure to bring extra socks for this adventure. The third hike we went on was the trail to the right, "the desert hike" as we called it. It is a slow start but a rewarding view at the halfway point. Once you reach half way you'll be standing on top of a ridge looking down into two valley's. The second part of the hike is definitely not for children or inexperienced hikers. There is about four dangerous spots were you are tip toeing along side the cliff hugging the edges for dear life. Make sure to wear proper footwear because it turns into life or death real quick. Didn't get to complete the entire trail but I will definitely be back to do so in the near future. As for camping, it seemed as if there was a party going on every night. We decided to go here last minute and didn't know where to get the vehicle pass at so we just stayed without one and was fine. There's only 11 campsites so be sure to get there before noon. FYI: BRING YOUR OWN TOILET PAPER!

A hidden gem. Not impressed with the tagging or the high school kids who came to drink at midnight. But they were quick to leave and then it was peaceful again. Gorgeous camping, off the beaten path, hardly used.

Beautiful spot. A stream runs through it. Trails into the Devil's Punchbowl were well maintained and planned. It was apparently free as there was no way to pay, nor did we see a ranger the entire time (5 nights), which was regrettable when people were playing music loudly after 10, though they turned it down when asked. Major defect: the pit toilets where horrible, and appeared to be completely unmaintained. They had not been pumped in recent memory, doors were broken and ajar, feces smears on seats, and filled with trash. Maybe that was why it was free? Also, a case of beer went missing after a visit from the forest service fire crew that was ostensibly picking up campsite trash (but not in the bathrooms). Over all a good experience, but the neglected toilets were a major downer. Especially near a stream, where the alternative is to go primitive. Update: Apparently, it is only officially "open" during the spring and summer, so the restrooms may not be maintained during the winter? If that is the case, I updated my rating.

this place would be awesome if it had some kind of campground host, but since it doesn't people show up and think they've been selected as campground DJ and don't respect anyone else camping there and blast music till 4:00am

I used to go here alot years ago. I really miss it. I've made the trip to the devil's chair and the devil's punch bowl many times. Ive been on every trail leading out of the camp ground there. Ive also made the trip into little rock where your not allowed to be lol.Last time I was there, it was riddled with trash, tagging and all sorts of I'll things. It's really sad. This was allways very special to me and I'll never forget it.
